Students participate in math workshop each day. During the workshop, students rotate through stations in small groups to work on math skills that meet their individual learning needs. Math stations include Work with Teacher, Independent Practice, and Computers/Games.
Students will be given a 2 minute fact drill weekly. We will begin with addition and subtraction facts and then move on to multiplication.
Topics to be covered in Unit 7
* Exploring fractional parts of a whole
* Find equivalent fractions
* Compare fractions
* Solve number stories involving fractions
The Big Sha-Boo-Zee
Third grade is the year for the Big Sha-Boo-Zee. This is our challenge to encourage students to learn their multiplication facts. Students should study their multiplication facts at home. They can choose to do one or more fact table at at time. When they feel they have the fact table memorized, they sign up to be tested. Testing takes places once per week. Students need to memorize their tables from 2-12. When they have memorized all their tables, they have passed The Big Sha-Boo-Zee!! We will have an awards ceremony at the end of the school year to recognize students who have met this challenge.
Memorization of multiplication facts through 12x12 is an expectation by the end of third grade. Start learning those facts!!!
